yes, 000webhost is free and you can put up your own ads. to tell you frankly, i'm still testdriving this free hosting provider and i can't say much about it. there was a time when my website was inaccessible but it was due to the manual checking that the admin was doing on each and every site. i heard that the hosting is good but the affiliate offer wherein they pay you $5 for every sign up you referred is a scam. (you can look this one up in google)
i still advise paid hosting though. i'm maintaining another blog under a paid hosting account. =)
